Éducation Anglaise (also known as Stays and Gloves in English) is a French spanking novel set in an English boarding school, best known for its two major illustrated editions with completely different artistic approaches.
The Illustrations
- 1908 edition (Édition Parisienne): Illustrated by M. del Giglio. These 10 plates feature his signature elegant and delicate linework, with strong attention to clothing details, corsetry, and refined figure posing.
- c. 1924/1931 edition (Librairie Artistique et Édition Parisienne réunies): Contains 33 illustrations by Gaston Smit (Georges Topfer). This much larger set shows Smit’s bolder, more expressive style with stronger shading, dynamic poses, and greater emphasis on the intensity of the punishment scenes.
The contrast between Del Giglio’s refined early style and Gaston Smit’s more vigorous later interpretation makes this title especially valuable for comparing artistic evolution in vintage erotic illustration.
