~ 1883 - 1960
There is not much to be found about artist Gaston Hoffman who's most famous artworks is a satire on medical subjects and for 'Scandale au Pictoire'. It shows a panel of judges “scandalized” by something they are viewing. I assume it is a picture of some sort – that “pictoire” is a reference to “picture.” Hoffmann also made prints showing disrobed women in court, and it may be that the “scandale” has reference to something risqué.
One of the books illustrated by Hoffmann is Ardance ou la Vallée d'automne written by Count Jean de Montesquiou-Fezansac (1946). Bdsm artworks by this artist are very rare but I managed to find a few.
