Jean d’Ayeud

Jean d’Ayeud is the enigmatic pseudonym attached to a handful of ultra‑rare, spanking‑themed erotic publications from the mid‑1930s. His most celebrated work, La Fesseuse Passionnée (also known as Les Voluptueuses Fessées), was issued by the boutique imprint Le Jardin d’Éros (part of Éditions du Couvre‑Feu/Jean Fort) in Paris around 1935‑1936.

The volume is distinguished by sixteen hyper‑realistic illustration plates that push the limits of erotic photography. Scholars believe the images were created by photographing live models and then transferring the pictures onto etching or lithographic plates, a technique that yields astonishing detail: fresh welts, glistening sweat, taut muscles and expressive faces. This level of realism has earned the book the reputation of being the apex of 1930s French BDSM art.

The true identity behind the name remains a mystery. Some researchers speculate that d’Ayeud may have been a photographer working for the Paris‑based Ostra Studio, or even the same individual as the author, with a possible link to Jacques Biederer (1887‑1942).
