Jules Fontanez
1 album/24 artworks – Jules Fontanez (1875 – 1918) was a painter and illustrator from Geneva. At the age of fifteen he became an apprentice wood engraver at the School of Industrial Arts. He practiced caricatures and contributed to various newspapers such as Sapajou and Passe Partout. At the same time he received his first orders and produced posters in color for Paris Bazar and Walner Opticien for the Société Suisse d’Affiches Artistiques de Genève. In 1898 he went to Paris where he completed his education, especially at Antonio de La Gandara (1862-1917), a former pupil of Jean-Léon Gérôme and a much sought-after social portrait painter.
