Jaroslav Štika was a Czech painter and illustrator celebrated for his provocative contributions to early 20th-century erotic art.
After studying at Prague’s Academy of Fine Arts under Jakub Obrovský and refining his craft at Rome’s Accademia di Belle Arti, Štika developed a distinctive academic style marked by precise linework and a playful yet sophisticated aesthetic. His portfolio includes a notable album of BDSM-themed art, alongside illustrations with subtle BDSM dynamics, showcasing his bold exploration of sensuality and power.
These works, often featuring Czech dancers and evocative figures, captivated Prague’s art patrons and tourists. Štika’s commercial illustrations, including posters and contributions to Humoristické listy, and his work for Baudelaire’s The Flowers of Evil, further highlight his versatility. His daring yet elegant depictions of erotic and BDSM themes remain a cherished part of vintage art collections.
