Rolf Dieter Schieldrum

~ 1930 - 2011

Rolf Dieter Schieldrum, also known as Mister O, was a German industrial designer primarily recognized for his work in the automotive industry. Born in 1930, Schieldrum spent much of his career designing for automobiles, applying his technical expertise to functional and aesthetic advancements in the field. His professional life was marked by a focus on industrial design, but he gained posthumous attention for a very different creative pursuit.
After his death in 2011, a collection of approximately 50 pencil drawings, created around 1970, was discovered. These works, described as "erotic-fetishist fantasies," revealed a previously unknown side of Schieldrum’s creative output.

This posthumous discovery added a complex dimension to Schieldrum’s legacy, contrasting his public career in industrial design with a private exploration of surrealist and erotic art.
Little is known about Schieldrum’s personal life or the motivations behind his private artwork, as his "fantaisies" only came to light after his passing. His dual legacy as both a pragmatic designer and an enigmatic artist continues to intrigue those studying his contributions to design and art.
