Mira K
~ Date of birth unknown ~
Mira K was a mysterious illustrator active in the 1920s and 1930s, renowned for her evocative F/F (female-on-female) spanking illustrations that embody the provocative essence of underground European erotica. Her work stands as a rare and introspective contribution to the "Golden Age" of French spanking literature and curiosa.
Virtually nothing is known about Mira K’s true identity—nationality, gender, birthdate, or even real name remain undisclosed. The feminine pseudonym may hint at a female creator, but in the clandestine publishing world of the era, such names were often deliberate misdirection to protect reputations or heighten mystique. Not all attributed works are signed; many are linked to Mira K through stylistic consistency: bold, fluid lines, dramatic lighting, and a recurring focus on mirrored self-examination, though some may belong to other anonymous artists within the same secretive circles.
Mira K’s illustrations are distinguished by their psychological depth and theatrical composition. Key motifs include: Self-spanking, Physical markings and Emotional intimacy. Her style aligns with the interwar BDSM underground, particularly in Paris and Berlin, where erotic art flourished in limited-edition portfolios for private collectors.
Several of Mira K’s signed and attributed works appeared in Ernst Schertel’s Der Flagellantismus als literarisches Motiv (Parthenon-Verlag, Leipzig, 1932), a seminal four-volume study of flagellantism as a literary and psychological motif. While Schertel’s text focuses on historical and literary analysis, the inclusion of Mira K’s illustrations in the series (especially in volumes exploring visual representation) positions her work within a scholarly yet taboo discourse on erotic discipline.
Today, Mira K is recognized almost exclusively through specialized archival projects (such as this site), where her portfolio has been meticulously compiled from scattered originals, reprints, and private collections. New high-resolution scans continue to surface, refining attributions and revealing previously unseen pieces. Despite the scarcity of provenance, Mira K remains one of the most distinctive voices in vintage spanking art, a phantom of the Weimar and early Third Republic erotic imagination.
